190th Anniversary Flag Desecration Bill Moves Ahead
The House plans to mark Flag Day with a bill making flag desecration a federal crime. Rep. Byron G. Rogers says a four member Judiciary subcommittee is studying the proposal amid near 100 related bills. Supporters seek quick committee action, while opponents include ACLU and a Bowling Green student. The bill targets public mutilation or defilement of the flag with penalties up to one year in prison and $1,000 fine.
