Burdett Free In Contempt Case In Clinton Gas Suit
Judge Knowlton freed Edward W. Burdett agent of Bigelow Carpet Co from Worcester house of correction after ten days served on an unlawful contempt sentence. The court ruled the injunction and underlying suit lacked proper private party standing and jurisdiction, dismissing the contempt finding and voiding the imprisonment and fine. The decision held public rights and gas commission enforcement supersede private property claims, confirming no private right protected by the suit.
