Lordsburg Cheerleaders Enter Western States Invitational
Lordsburg High School six member squad Earline Diffenderfer Yvette Koebee Sandra Rosales Rosemary Leyva Liz Hood and Anna Talavera accept invitation to the First Annual Western States Cheerleaders Invitational. The event runs September 15 and 16 at Truth or Consequences with trophies for top three, first place receiving a chicken dinner for each squad member at Butte B B Que. Colonel Robert Shaffer of White Sands Missile Range to judge. Other squads from Alamogordo and Truth or Consequences also invited along with schools from New Mexico Colorado Texas and Arizona.

Department of Game and Fish wins Interior recreation award
The Department of Game and Fish receives the Outdoor Recreation Achievement Award from the U.S. Interior Department for efforts in expanding outdoor opportunities for special populations. Gov. Bruce King, Harold Olson, and officials accepted the award on May 17 in Albuquerque. The department’s initiatives include accessible fishing at Glenwood Hatchery, vehicle hunting permits for handicapped individuals, reduced license fees for the handicapped, and a wheelchair users elk hunt with Vermejo and Moreno ranches.
