Lordsburg Lion of the Year Named for Service
Bill Kimbley is named Lion of the Year for devoted service to Lionism and club projects. A Lordsburg Lions Club member since 1945 and former president, he also led the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce and was Hidalgo County Citizen of the Year in 1966. He worked as a Shell products dealer for 45 years and sold Goodyear products for 25 years in Lordsburg.

Lordsburg Municipal School Board enacted a Tobacco Free School policy on June 2. Effective July 1, 1992, smoking and tobacco use are prohibited on all district property including buildings, grounds, and district vehicles. The policy covers all school owned facilities and related areas.

Lordsburg man arraigned in knife attack case
Johnny DePorto, 26, arraigned in Hidalgo County Magistrate Court on charges of attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery and tampering with evidence in a May 30 assault on Nick Paulos outside Road Fork Tavern. Co-defendant Mark Van Ahsen charged with harboring and aiding a felon. DePorto held on 100000 bond, Van Ahsen released on 1000 bond. Paulos treated at Gila Regional Medical Center for head neck and arm injuries. DePorto and Van Ahsen given court appointed attorneys. DePorto’s bond set at 100000. Van Ahsen unsecured 1000 bond. DePorto remains in Hidalgo County Jail.

A 30 minute English language short, Charlie And The Doctor, will be filmed in Lordsburg by Premiere Heure. About 40 extras and four speaking parts open to residents. Speaking roles include a bartender doctor waitress and a checkout girl. Casting at Chamber of Commerce Friday 10 00 AM to 1 00 PM and 2 00 PM to 6 00 PM. Extras paid 25 per day. speaking parts paid slightly more. Filming this fall at multiple local locations.
