Conservation tillage boosts moisture retention and yields
Peter Myers of the USDA Soil Conservation Service cites research showing conservation tillage and no till slow plant stress by five to ten days, delay evapotranspiration, and keep two inches more soil water during drought. No till on irrigated wheat can save water, and dry years favor conservation tillage over conventional tillage.
