City considers revenue bonds for Rex Kipp motel plan
Lordsburg City Council discussed and tentatively approved seeking revenue bonds to finance a Silver Tree Motel and Restaurant on Main Street south of I 10. If needed, a possible three million dollars would be reapproached with documents. The council also approved buying a Wang Industries computer, funded from revenue sharing and other funds, to reduce errors and free staff time, with final approval from the Department of Finance Administration. Mayor Hill sought transfer of thirty thousand dollars from Lodgers Tax to a promotional fund for state advertising, with at least 40 percent match. Continued on Page 2.

Gus Martin Wins First Place in Lordsburg Horseshoe Tourney
Gus Martin of the Deming Ringers captured first place at a Las Vegas Nevada invitation horseshoe tournament. He defeated four state champions and other competitors to earn $200 a winner’s trophy and invitations to the Springfield Missouri and Alabama world tours. His trophy is on public display at the Lordsburg Liberal as sponsors view it.

Block Grants Announced By New Mexico Governor Anaya
Governor Toney Anaya announced 9.9 million dollars in 1983 community development block grants for New Mexico. Hidalgo County receives 179,030 for Lordsburg Hospital renovation as a clinic and alcoholism treatment center, and Lordsburg gets 200,000 for housing rehabilitation of about 16 homes. The block committee reviewed 197 applications totaling 60 million and approved 50 projects.

Heidi Anderson announced county involvement in Santa Fe on a hospital grant and a nearby tourist center project. The grant funds renovation of the current hospital with a plan to convert part into an alcohol rehabilitation center once specifications are met.
