Holiday Cheer drive boosts Second Harvest donations
Second Harvest reports rising food costs with meals at about 2 million annually, up from 500 thousand to 600 thousand. In Lorain County volunteers served nearly 2,000 families at Lorain County Community College, while four counties total aided about 3,500 families. The Holiday Cheer campaign follows Thanksgiving distributions as agencies worry about year end needs. Last year’s drive raised about 93 thousand. WOBL WDLW solicit nonperishables through December 13 at Oberlin drop site with pickup options on December 6.

Thanksgiving turkey drive draws thousands and volunteers
The Turkey County distribution is the largest yet with about 2 000 turkeys to be handed out thanks to strong college city and police partnerships. LCCC provided around 50 volunteers joining families from the area in a multi year event that connects the college with the community and supports career and education outreach. Second Harvest added pork options this year to serve Lorain County’s Latino population and respond to local needs.
