About 1,966 families totaling 8,398 people benefited from Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio's fourth annual Thanksgiving distribution at Lorain County Community College. Heating help available through Winter Crisis Program
Lorain County residents without heat or facing disconnection can receive heating assistance through the Winter Crisis Program run by the Lorain County Community Action Agency. The program runs through March 31 and serves those at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty level. Eligible individuals can receive funds for regulated and unregulated utilities, bulk fuel, heating oil, kerosene, coal or wood, and for heating unit repairs or replacement. In-person services are available at Second Baptist Church in Elyria and Office on Aging locations on Wellington and Elyria with appointment times listed.
