Anchors Aweigh for a Local Treasure
Gary McCombs donated a 9,300 pound anchor from the American Ship Building Co to Lorain County Veterans Service Commission. The move followed safety steps to break up a concrete pad and will lead to sandblasting and turning the anchor into a Navy Chief’s insignia. The display aims to honor Navy and Coast Guard chiefs of Lorain County with the piece to be housed at the Abbe Road office in the fall.
