Home values to rise in Lorain County after 2024 reappraisal
Lorain County residential values are expected to climb about 31 percent in 2024 after the six year reappraisal. County Auditor Craig Snodgrass cautions that tax changes may vary and will depend on sales and market conditions. Homeowners in Elyria areas will receive letters inviting 15 minute in person explanations at Lorain County Community College Ridge Campus August 5 to 8.

Anchor weighs four tons found in Sheffield yard
Gary McCombs discovered a 9,300 pound anchor in his Sheffield Township front yard. Ken Lane of Lorain County Veterans Services helped guide the anchor onto a flatbed for cleaning and painting. The plan is to place the anchor at the Lorain County Veterans Services office in Elyria.

Former ECQB player given six month sentence for sex assault
Brady Cook, 19, formerly Elyria Catholic High School quarterback, was led from Lorain County Common Pleas Court in handcuffs to begin a six month jail term for abducting a 16 year old girl with a sexual motive and related charges from an after prom party in May 2023. He will then serve six months house arrest and five years probation, register as a Tier II sex offender, and undergo a substance abuse evaluation. The victim spoke emotionally in court and Cook apologized. A civil suit was filed by Cook and his mother against the party hosts, who deny the allegations.
