Jim McConnell, 78, celebrated his 26th wedding anniversary at Hickory Grove Farms when a helicopter descended in the side yard. Piloted by Heather McCann’s husband Brady with Andy Jones piloting, the ride marked McConnell’s first flight since February 1972, a gift orchestrated by family to recreate wartime aviation memories.

Mark Vandevender, 35, of Westlake, pleaded guilty in Lorain County Common Pleas Court to three forgery charges related to drug analysis at the Lorain County Crime Lab from 2021 to 2022. Early release angers mother of rape victim in Elyria
In Lorain County, 52 year old John Bitonti, jailed since 2019 for raping and molesting an 8 year old family member he babysat, was released after serving about half his eight year sentence. The victim’s mother voiced disgust with the justice system during a July 11 court appearance.
