Brush blaze and La Tuna Canyon fire sweep Santa Monica area
A brush fire in the Santa Monica Mountains blackened over 18 000 acres in five days and was mostly under control with a two mile front. Firefighters from four counties battled the blaze to protect luxury ranches as arson notes were investigated and a wind-driven ember spread up canyon. Meanwhile the La Tuna Canyon fire near the mine slush timber burned about 3 000 acres, destroyed three homes and damaged several others as investigators reviewed blamed youth actions.
