Birthplace of Ice Cream Origin Tied to Mt Etna Snow
Catania Sicily is described as the birthplace of ice cream due to Etna snow. Miners harvest snow in winterless summers and pack it for sale, originally shipped as far as Egypt. In medieval times Etna snow, called The Archbishop's Snow, yielded rights to archbishops who partly profit from sales.
