Putnam Connecticut faced a night of terror as flood waters carried hundreds of exploding magnesium barrels through the business district. Flames and showers of blazing metal lit the sky from dusk to dawn, damaging homes and factories, but civil defense reported no casualties despite heavy destruction and a 200 ton magnesium stock from the Metal Sellers plant.
Captain George Watson and first mate Kenneth Seaman remained aboard the 7133 ton freighter Argobeam as a North Atlantic storm rages. The crew abandoned ship, while two salvage tugs attempt to tow the vessel before it is swamped by towering seas.
Dr. Sammy Lee announced in Ft. Carson Colorado that he will move to Garden Grove and buy a home there once permitted by the stork and the Army. He spoke with the Press Telegram saying he is overwhelmed and reassured by the Southland community's response. He had twice been denied the right to buy a home in South California due to his Korean ancestry.
A 15 year old fired a deer rifle from a car into a Garden Grove home striking Eugene Groves 48, killing him instantly. The shooter confessed he had loaded the gun, was taken to Juvenile Hall, and the incident sparked discussions on safety and accountability. The victim's daughter Sandra 15 and Mrs Groves were treated for shock.
In Judge Maltby’s court a man fined $50 for drunken driving and for resorting protests the term resorting was a mistake. The judge corrects the record, noting the actual charge was driving with a revoked license. The husband asks to have resorting listed as a mistake.
NORWALK George Stephen son 61 of 1112 Sudene St Ful lerton killed instantly when his eastbound car veered across the center barrier on the Santa Ana Freeway just east of the Orange County line and struck a westbound bus today. Mrs Eva Stephenson 64 critically injured and taken to Carobil Hospital Norwalk where doctors fought to save her. Three bus passengers had minor injuries and continued to Los Angeles.
An FSH jet fighter crashed in the desert near Wendover Utah early today. The base commander of Clovis New Mexico Air Force Base Col Hank Morman 38 of Hardy Arkansas was killed in the wreckage.

Five persons were killed and two injured early today in a two-vehicle crash on the Freeport cutoff, described by state police as a slaughter. The week’s tally rose to seven fatalities on the half mile stretch and to 92 for 1955 overall.
