Hit and Run Armed Vehicle For Marines Ordered
The Marine Corps ordered production of an armed vehicle based on an Army design named Ontos. Allis-Chalmers of Milwaukee won a 13 million dollar contract to build an undisclosed number of Ontos at its La Porte Indiana plant starting August 1956, with completion about a year later. The Ontos mounts six 106 mm recoilless rifles on a tracked chassis, plus four spotting rifles, enabling rapid firing by remote coordination. The Army initially rejected the concept, but the Marine Corps tested early models and deemed it suitable for their tactics.

Eisenhower's Two-Pound Trout Championship at Fraser
In Fraser Colorado President Eisenhower hosts a fishing outing at St Louis Creek. He lands a two-pound trout as the highlight of a morning session, along with several smaller catches. His grandson David also fishes, while Eisenhower alternates between fishing golf practice and painting a mountain scene. James Hagerty says the pair caught about 16 trout.
