Man killed in Irish riot in Londonderry
In Londonderry Northern Ireland Catholics and Protestants clashed with rocks and clubs outside the diamond shopping center in Bogside. A man was killed in the first flare up since August riots as British troops created a 50 yard no man’s land and attempted to separate the mobs.

Francis L. Martin Veteran Lt Col Retired Obituary
Funeral services with full military honors will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at McPeek Family Chapel for Francis Lee Martin a retired Lt Col who died at Vandenberg AFB Hospital Tuesday night. Interment will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. He lived in the area 11 years and resided at 4036 Muirfield. Born September 9 1918 he entered service in 1939 and earned his commission in 1943. He served as an aircraft and engineering officer in the European Theatre and joined the early Vandenberg missile program before retiring in November 1963. He is survived by his widow Olivia daughters Constance Wilbur Linda Martin Sharron Kunz mother Sara Martin two sisters Evelyn Wiley Iris Martin and three grandchildren. Funeral services are pending for Harry S. Smith age 65 who died yesterday at Lompoc District Hospital residing at 703 E Cypress. Arrangements by McPeek Family Mortuary. details in tomorrow's Record.
