Mrs Henry Gallina and Steve Straight from Westwings School were chosen as Leaders of American Elementary Education for 1971. Nominated by school administrators, they were praised for exploring new paths and sharing knowledge with students and colleagues. Gallina teaches kindergarten and Straight teaches sixth grade honors.
The Auld Lang Syne club schedules a potluck dinner and social games evening for Thursday at the Recreation Center 105 S C St. Members over 40 may join and attend weekly meetings. Attendees should bring a menu contribution and their own place setting. Serving starts at 6:30 PM.
Mr and Mrs Wallace Iverson announce the engagement of their daughter Heidi Ellan Iverson to Bruce James Thomas Jr son of Mr and Mrs Bruce James Thomas of 405 S Hawthorne. They plan a December 18 wedding. Heidi attended Selma High School and California Lutheran College and teaches at Banyon School Newbury Park. Bruce James Thomas III a Lompoc High School and California Lutheran College alumnus is a graduate student at San Fernando Valley State. He will earn a masters in economics next June after ten weeks at Marine Officers Candidate School Quantico VA earning a 2nd lieutenant commission.
Mr and Mrs M Harold Munn III exchange marriage vows at the Salt Lake Temple with O Leslie Stone officiating. The couple will live in Provo Utah while attending school and host receptions in Salt Lake City and Lompoc.
Vandenberg AFB announces the fifth annual Miss Vandenberg AFB Teen Pageant on October 1 of 2 with Senior Teen competition October 2 starting at 7 p.m. Junior Teen interviews occur October 1.Contestants are dependent youths in grades 7 through high school. The Fire Department and Youth Center promote the event.
William B. Hansen local public accountant will speak on changes in 1971 income tax laws before the Lompoc Valley Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. The September 16 meeting at 1:30 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Hall includes reports, refreshment break, and plans for a Christmas party.
The Methodist Womens Society of Christian Service district will host a September meeting this Thursday at 7 30 p m with Rebekah Circle as hostess. Mrs Dennis Roberts vice president will lead a program honoring church senior citizens. Entertainers Late Bloomers Band will perform. Worship service at First United Methodist Church on Oct 10 will feature Christ the Women's Liberator as the theme.
Mrs. George Cotsenmeyer will become president of the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division with installation at Village Country Club Friday night. Helen Smith and others will be inducted. Capt Jillian Tate is expected to speak on her wartime service and Air Force career. Reservations and tickets are available through Norma Stillman with door sales.
