Laos Peace Pact Signed Ending War After A Decade

In Vientiane negotiators from government and Pathet Lao signed a peace accord witnessed by U S China North Vietnam and South Vietnam at Prince Souvanna Phoumas home. Souvanna pledged support as diplomats looked on. In Belfast IRA claimed responsibility for two blasts at a post office and the Carlton Hotel in Belleek near the border with the Republic of Ireland.

Pair of Southern California quakes shake region

A 5.0 magnitude quake struck about 50 miles east of San Diego at 10:31 a.m. PDT. It caused no serious damage. A lighter temblor followed at 2:06 p.m. near Sylmar, north of Los Angeles, with a magnitude of 18.

Nixon Says Personal taxes Private, Not Public Business

President Nixon stated that whether he paid personal income taxes in 1970 and 1971 is his own business. The issue arose after reports that interest on California and Florida homes and a write off for private papers to the National Archives could mean no taxes were paid on his $200,000 salary in those years.

Hartford alumnus to be honored at Cal Poly Homecoming

Bob J. Gaston of Hartford Connecticut will be honored as a distinguished alumnus during Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Homecoming festivities in October 1973. A 1967 Cal Poly business administration graduate Gaston built a record selling over one million dollars in life insurance by his second year with Connecticut Mutual Life and led regional life underwriters groups.
