Heart Association reports banner year for cardiovascular drive

Dr Richard A Lim as Heart Assn president called the just-ended fiscal year a banner year with a record campaign income of 71928 and praised Lompoc and Santa Maria for large gains. Dr Barry Coughlin credited Had Burger and the Lompoc Record for strong support and thanked Heart Sunday efforts. Five board members were appointed to a state committee by Dr Clayton H Klakey. The group met at the new headquarters in Santa Barbara.

Legislators’ staffs grow as California pays top salaries

In California the legislature spends about 13 million annually on employe salaries with gaps between Assembly and Senate pay. Since Jess Unruh’s era the staff has expanded to 1400, including secretaries and messengers. Notable salaries include O'Rourke at 35000, Hale Winkler 24840, and many aides earning in the 18 to 28 thousand range plus per diem and other benefits.

Fall ministry set at Calvary Baptist
