New breed of woman educator reshapes college leadership
United Press International notes a surge of women leading private women’s colleges. Among 70 colleges in the Women's College Coalition two thirds of chief executives are women. Since the late 1960s, 70 more schools remain, with some coeducational mergers. New presidents bring careers from law, diplomacy, government, and nonprofit work, exemplifying leadership for students. Frances Farenthold at Wells College and others at Mills, Mary Baldwin, Wheaton, Colorado Women’s College, and Los Alamos mark the trend.
