County Tax Rate Cut Reduces Levy to 2.97 Per 100

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to set the 1976-77 county government tax levy at 2.97 per 100 assessed value, a 34 cent cut from last year and 63 cents below the 1971-72 high. Auditor Parsons cited budget repairs and rising assessments, while noting large boosts for reassessed properties.

City eyes new rubbish plan for Lompoc

Assistant city administrator Bob Livingston says a mechanized rubbish collection plan may go to the Lompoc City Council in late September or October. A 300 gallon container would replace individual bins and each container would serve four homes, enabling mechanized dumping and reduced crew needs. Costs of containers and truck modifications are under study with possible council action after evaluating proposals.

Teachers to vote on four percent raise pact ratification

Teachers from Lompoc Education Association and Lompoc Federation of Teachers will ratify a labor contract offering a 4 percent salary increase and 325 in health and welfare benefits. The agreement, effective upon ratification and valid through 1977, sets salary steps for BA plus degrees and keeps district control and grievance terms. An Education Employe Relations Board hearing on unit determinations runs parallel, potentially affecting bargaining representation for 85 district employees.

City to launch 10 month bus pilot in Lompoc

City wide fixed route bus service debuts Wednesday with two 16 passenger Mercedes buses. Free rides first week, then 50 cent fare, 25 cent for under 18 SSI recipients. Service runs 105 hours weekly from 7 am to 8 pm, with Saturday 8 am to 5 pm and limited Sundays. Stops, schedules, and discount IDs available at transit office and CAC offices.
