Californians Favor Longer Driver Licenses and Evening Hours
A Field Poll for the Department of Motor Vehicles finds more than half of Californians support extending licenses from four years to eight or twelve years for drivers with clean records. Eight and twelve year options would cost $6.50 and $9.25 respectively, while 40.2 percent back keeping the current four year term at $3.25. The poll also shows demand for evening hours and Saturday service at DMV offices, with 42.6 percent favoring extended weekday hours. The DMV plans a two year pilot to adjust hours at some offices.
