Two Suspects to be Charged in Kidnapping Case

Reno Nevada police prepare charges against a former security officer and an unemployed bartender in a kidnapping case. Investigators say the suspects abducted a man and held him for ransom, with detectives pursuing additional leads.

Judge joins Native American ceremony in Texas

Dist. Judge E James Karen observed a nightlong ritual of the Native American Church including Shawnee Pawnee Omaha Navajo Cherokee Winnipeg and Kickapoo participants. He described the session as a sincere prayer gathering around a fire with drumbeat chanting and prayers for mankind and leaders. Separately two men including Joe Lischke and William McCoole faced arraignment in Las Vegas for an $800000 kidnapping of real estate man Dean Petersen with allegations of threats and ransom. Petersen reported being abducted 450 miles to Reno before escaping while his captors had threatened bodily harm.

Lompoc area officials announce meetings and notices

A Sunday crash injured Claude Kilgore in Lompoc with minor injuries after veering off Lompoc Casmalia Road. Local government items include Lompoc Unified School District board meeting on North A Street, council dinner at Foster's for Ryan Memorial Park plans, and a cancelled x ray mobile unit. Also planned are a planning commission session on auto transmission shops, Housing Appeals Board inaugural meeting, and the grand opening of the central administration building with tours and refreshments.

Lompoc Teen Becomes First Local Male Candy Striper

Bill Katin Jr a 16 year old Lompoc High forward and district resident graduates into the Red Cross Candy Striper role at Lompoc District Hospital after about 50 hours of on the job training. He serves in pediatrics x ray and elderly care while aiming for pediatrician studies at Cal Lutheran College. Local mentors include Dr Nygren and hospital staff.

Troops Fire Tear Gas as Protestants Clash in Belfast

British troops pushed back 1 000 militant Protestants who hurled bricks in two attempts to march on a Roman Catholic neighborhood in the Shankhill Road area. Snipers fired but could not be located. The weekend violence left three dead and 66 injured.
