The Mathematics Council of the California Central Coast will host its second annual Mini-Conference on Saturday October 21 from 8 30 a m to 2 30 p m at Allan Hancock.
The general session and adjacent classroom workshops highlight speakers Charles Allen and Robert Hamada with a keynote on math and a lab‑based section. IBM’s James Bergquist presents APL demonstrations while Sharon DeMello and Samuel Lipman lead two teacher workshops. A student math project display accompanies a grades 9 14 contest.
Goleta attorney James R. Christiansen pressed the Board of Supervisors to demand environmental impact studies for current and future agricultural preserves. Board chair Curtis Tunnell resisted, arguing preserves do not significantly affect the environment. the board agreed to exclude rezoning from its resolution. The discussion also touched on historical notes about Jackson’s birthplace and a remark on wassail bowls.
