Supermarket official pleads guilty to evading income tax

Jordano's Markets Inc. pled guilty in U S District Court to willfully evading corporate income tax for 1965 and 1966. Judge David W. Williams set sentencing for Nov 1. The company underreported income by 173 384 50 and sought to evade 83 878 59 in taxes, facing a possible 10 000 fine on each count. County Board Rejects Drug Abuse Coordinator Fund

County supervisors refused 24 000 dollars in emergency funds to hire a full time drug abuse coordinator favoring assignment of existing staff to coordinate agencies and programs. Welfare checks mailed amid AFDC turmoil in Santa Barbara County

About 4,000 county families received welfare checks after delays and errors blamed on the Reagan era AFDC reforms. County Welfare Director Arthur Nelson told the Board of Supervisors that court rulings forced a return to prior payment schedules and triggered 60,000 dollars a month in potential reductions without proper notice. Eligibility staff work nights and weekends to implement new budget changes by October 13.
