Indictment for triple murder amid Sierra County camping case

21 year old Carter Yuen of San Francisco Chinatown faces murder charges for the deaths of three Chinese companions during a camping trip along Gold Rush Highway on Sept. 24 He is also charged with attempting to murder Ronald Gong 14 who is hospitalized in Loyalton Cal. Yuen was captured near Sierraville after authorities found the bodies.

Nationwide mild autumn weather across the nation

Pleasant autumn conditions prevailed across much of the United States with warmer spells along the Gulf coast and Southwest interior. Early morning temperatures ranged from 35 in Evanston and Laramie to 82 in Key West and Fort Lauderdale as fronts brought scattered rain and thunderstorms in parts of the Southeast, Appalachians, and Southwest.

Violence eases after Ulster bombing with sniper attack

In Belfast the wave of violence following Monday's bombing of a British Army post tapered to scattered shootings. A soldier was lightly wounded on Lower Falls Road in a sniper attack. The blast killed Guardsman Brian Hall, 22, a father of one, and injured five others. Explosives experts estimated a 50 to 100 pound device at the rear of a house used as the post. Residents, army and fire crews worked to free victims from wreckage.

FBI to Probe Action in Stopping Hijacker

FBI to review its attempt to halt a private plane hijacking with gunfire after the hijacker killed his estranged wife the pilot and himself A charter airline president criticized FBI refusal to refit the plane for the hijacker and a Jacksonville agent declined comment on the decision Three occupants died including hijacker Mallory Gitte Jr and his wife Susan Laich Gitte The incident followed pleas to refuel and ongoing statements from the FBI and pilot witnesses.

In Vancouver Washington UPI reports Judge Donald L Gaines rejected requests for a separate trial by San Francisco Mayor Alioto and a mistrial by John J O Connell in a 23 million civil suit over legal fees. The plaintiffs claim fee sharing with O Connell and others. Hessell laid out detailed agreements and payments linked to antitrust settlements.
