Milk up but beef down as prices fluctuate

Teens Arrested In Four Lompoc Burglaries

Police say two teenage boys aged 14 and 13 were arrested after being observed acting suspiciously at a Lompoc shopping center. They are linked to four burglaries including a theft of a firearm, with loot buried in a field. the firearm and most money were recovered. The youths were turned over to juvenile authorities as investigators pursue possible further ties.

Infant Marc Blizzard Funeral Services Set

Funeral services for two month old Marc T. Blizzard will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at McPeek Family Mortuary Chapel. Interment follows at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery with Chaplain Vancil Gibson officiating. Born in August at Vandenberg AFB Hospital, he is survived by parents Aaron and [redacted] Blizzard and twin sister Pamela, plus grandparents Thelma Blizzard and Thomas Jenkins of Virginia. Sharp September drop in wholesale food prices reported

The UPI summary states wholesale prices for major food products fell 6 percent in September and the overall index declined 1.8 percent, the largest monthly drop in over 25 years. Food prices led by poultry and livestock declines while milk and cereals rose. The report suggests possible retail relief, with officials calling the inflation surge behind us.

Calley Defense Claims He Was Following Orders at My Lai

Attorneys for 1st Lt. William L. Calley Jr. argued before the Court of Military Appeals that he was obeying orders when 22 Vietnamese civilians were killed at My Lai in 1968. Capt. J Houston Gordon said Calley did his duty as he saw it while Medina allegedly ordered the killings. The court paused as three civilian judges began review of the 20 year sentence and conviction.

Nerve gas to be destroyed at Rocky Mountain Arsenal

Army Secretary Howard H. Callaway says all 2 250 tons of lethal nerve gas stored at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Denver will be destroyed. The gas has leaked in about 15 percent of containers but has not been exposed to air. Destruction start and completion dates were not announced.

Thunderstorms Drench Mississippi Valley With Heavy Rain

Severe storms dumped rain across central Mississippi Valley causing swollen rivers and flash flood threats. Missouri Iowa Illinois saw rivers rise with Sedalia at 4.70 inches in six hours and Warrensburg at 2.85 inches. Schuyler County streams were receding as activity waned.

Lompoc issues 11 building permits totaling nearly 40 thousand

City of Lompoc building officials issued 11 permits last month with a construction valuation of 39 896 dollars. The year to date volume stands at 2 206 million, up from 2 576 million last year at this time, and calendar year volume at 918 516 dollars versus 392 089 last year. Last month breakdown lists one single family residence one commercial alteration and nine residential alterations.
