Agnew attacks report as decency issue in campaign

Vice President Spiro T. Agnew urged Congress to back Nixon to stop what he called a decency assault across society. He attacked a pornography commission report and criticized courts and radicals while funding dinner rhetoric. Separately Cesar Chavez’s UFW signed its first contract with Brown and Hill tomato firm in Salinas, with higher tomato bucket pay and hourly rates.

Witness recounts night threats in Tate murder case

State witness Juan Flynn described intimidation used to deter him from testifying against Charles Manson and his followers. He recalled a late night call with animal sounds and two cult members visiting his home in Los Angeles Suburbs, warning him he’d be harmed if he spoke. Snipers Targeted Tires In Dynamite Truck Blast

Police report the Springfield Ohio case involved bullets aimed at a 21 ton dynamite load. The blast destroyed the tractor trailer, a farm house, two gas stations and a candy store, injuring no one and killing the driver John A. Galt. Two teamsters and a wife face second degree murder arraignment.

Cambodian road attacks amid harvest fears in Phnom Penh area

Cambodian forces reported Viet Cong and North Vietnamese attacks on four towns along Highway 5 from 30 to 58 miles northwest of Phnom Penh. Agriculture officials warned that losing the highway could worsen a rice harvest already forecast to drop by at least 40 percent. The fighting comes as Saigon reports civilian and military losses in the broader conflict and as Khmer Rouge and allied forces constrain key routes including Highways 2 3 4 and 6.

Reagan backs Proposition 113 to aid disabled veterans

The measure, costing about 150000 statewide, would impact roughly 860 veterans. Reagan stressed support for those who adapted homes for accessibility amid a three day San Joaquin Valley tour.

Unruh Bridges Gap Speaking To Youth And Seniors

Democratic candidate Jess Unruh campaigned to merge generations urging teens to organize and seniors to demand higher social security.
