Lompoc Firefighters Recall Devastating California Blaze

Eleven Lompoc firefighters returned home with tales from the largest California fire in memory. They served in three man crews under Los Angeles officials near Zuma Beach In base camp at Station 71 they battled shifting flames borate bombers helicopters seawater drops and dangerous debris. Fire scenes included a youth refusing to give up on a burning house and a crewman sustaining a neck burn as water hit a hot spot.

Nixon meets Tito in Belgrade on Middle East talks

President Nixon arrived in Belgrade for a two day talks with Yugoslav President Tito as a key link between the Soviet bloc and the Arab world. Tito welcomed the first American president to visit Yugoslavia as Air Force One landed from Naples and the leaders headed into Belgrade in a motorcade amid cheering crowds.

Fights Reported Between Guerrillas and Jordanian Army in Irbid
