Tax withholding bill in California Senate advances with Reagan aid

A half billion dollar plan to withhold state income tax moves to the California Senate. Gov. Reagan supports the measure to close a $310 million revenue gap and fund a $200 million one-time construction program. The package, by Assemblyman William T Bagley, would raise $470 million from withholding and $83 million from targeted taxes on banks corporations oil and wealthy individuals.
