Botulism case under investigation in Santa Barbara

Special SY district could trigger tax hike in Santa Ynez

County officials warn that Santa Ynez voters approved a new Community Services District by 93 to 24 and seek state certification by January 1 1972. If certified, a tax up to 50 cents per $100 of assessed value could be levied next July for sewage and related services. failure to certify delays the levy for a full year.

Burglars Break Window at Medical Pharmacy

Burglars threw a rock through a window at Medical Pharmacy on 616 E. Ocean Ave last night and stole a bottle of pills valued at 20 dollars. Robert Earl Parry 23 of 506 E Chestnut Ave awaits court action on DUI marijuana and switchblade charges after deputies arrested him in the 600 block of East Ocean Avenue. Bail set at 3800 dollars.

Santa Ynez forms sewage district amid mounting problems

The Santa Ynez Valley forms a five member Community Services District to fund a public sewer system possibly with help from SMID and Santa Ynez High School District. If approved by voters, financing could come from federal funds taxes or bonds. A county official cautions that construction will take time as the town tackles overflowing septic tanks. Separately a Superior Court jury finds 23 year old Westen Nekotani guilty on 20 counts of rape related offenses involving five Isla Vista women after a July 29 stakeout. The Goleta Valley drug store employee faces potential life sentences if sane at the time of the crimes, with insanity proceedings to be ruled on by Judge Floyd Dodson.

Three men charged in bid to steal high speed gun sight plans

Julius R Juede Franz Franke and Ernest Luisi were accused of conspiracy grand theft and bribery to obtain trade secrets for a camera used in the Air Force Phantom. The trio met an informant in Burbank and the plan was filmed and witnessed by investigators.

Parks Commission votes to halt park land purchase plan

The Lompoc Parks and Recreation Commission urged the City Council to terminate the HUD acquisition of O Street Park after the seller withdrew and prices rose to 3200 per acre from 1700. The panel also backed motorized use at Cebada Canyon, approved a venue fee schedule for recreation buildings, and discussed city hall facilities.

Drainage plan committee to study financing and ordinances

Lefkowitz named Harley Craig Virgil Phelps and William Fick to a ways and means panel to study financing options. Morris Sobham will work with Ken Dawson and James Longtin to draft a comprehensive drainage ordinance and set priorities for City Council. The panel will reconvene Dec. 8 to evaluate financing construction storm drain size design and coordination with street projects. It will also assess Miguelito Channel drainage to the west.
