The House Appropriations Committee approved a $71 billion defense bill and rejected an amendment to require a June withdrawal of all U S forces from Southeast Asia. Rep Edward Boland sought a binding end the war provision to bar combat outlays after June 1 in Indochina. The panel also urged a $2.4 billion Pentagon cut, though funding would still exceed last year by $1.5 billion.

Honey to seek reinstatement

Japanese officials buried in landslide near Kawasaki
