The Senate moved toward a two part foreign aid package before a Monday deadline. A $1.1 billion economic and humanitarian bill passed amid opposition to raised loan rates. A companion $1.2 billion military aid bill faced a vote with Sen. Stennis proposing a $318 million increase.

Mayors Arrested in Oakland Kidnapping Attempt

Marcelino Vasquez mayor of Pittsburg and Manuel Raya were arraigned on kidnapping and attempted rape charges after a 13 year old girl was abducted near Alameda. They posted bail after the arraignment and were arrested by Officer Lawrence Davis who heard the victim’s screams.

Reinecke denies ex aide charges as ridiculous

In Sacramento Lt. Gov. Ed Reinecke rejects former aide Hal Steward's accusations that he spent taxpayers money on a governor campaign and conspired against Reagan. Steward resigned after seven weeks claiming misused funds and political meddling. Reinecke calls the charges utterly groundless and says his expenses come from a private kitty.
