Lompoc City Council disapproved a four hour Ocean Avenue street closure for a Vietnam moratorium march on Nov. 15. The vote 3 to 2 followed a hastily drafted agenda item and safety concerns. Mayor MacClure and two council members opposed the restriction citing public safety.

Hospital chief warns on committee report over Goleta Valley expansion
Hospital administrator Charles W. Elaison told the County Board of Supervisors a negative report from the County Hospital Area Planning Committee on Goleta Valley Community Hospital expansion could be prejudicial. A public hearing was set for Dec. 8 after Supervisor Daniel G. Grant suggested delay. The committee will prepare a report for the hearing. the grant application totals 3.591 million dollars. Previously, the County Cities Area Planning Council approved the grant conditionally pending hospital and supervisor approval.

Edison Co Wins Three Month Continuance for Toro Canyon Substation
Southern California Edison Co won a three month continuance before the Board of Supervisors as it works to resolve issues tied to a proposed expanded substation at 186 Toro Canyon Road in Carpinteria Valley. District Manager Donald Frary said the firm has begun condemnation proceedings against deed restrictions on a five acre parcel east of Summerland to secure a new site. Supervisors in April granted a six month delay following Planning Commission action to revoke the use permit.

Bridge project move advances for Alisal span approval
