Hillside quarry near Lompoc to vanish before highway plan
A Hillside quarry on the San Julian Ranch 10 miles south of Lompoc will remove the scarred hillside from view along State Highway 1 within about a month. Officials say the operation, by John Blakemore and L.S. Hawley Corp, is in a preserve and should not affect scenic highway designation. Local Planning staff plan to present materials to the State Division of Highways in San Luis Obispo after a Board of Supervisors request.
