Sheriff seeks federal grant for riot gear and future helicopters

The Board of Supervisors approved Sheriff John W. Carpenter applying for a $58,875 federal grant to buy gas masks armor vests gas grenades and related equipment for civil disturbances and emergencies. They also questioned applications for three law enforcement helicopters and a county wide intelligence unit amid calls for county funding oversight.

County Sets Salary for Air Pollution Control Engineer

Court frees Russell Price on battery charges in Lompoc

In Lompoc Justice Court Monday the battery case against 65 year old Russell Thomas Price of 124 S G St was dismissed. Police report theft of 225 dollars in 20 bills from Linda Wolcott 715 W Chestnut Ave between Friday and Monday. Damages estimated at 450 dollars were caused at 201 N X St over two weeks, with broken windows found by a repair worker. PLUS meets at 7 30 p m at 468 St Andrews Way. A missile launch by Grand Forks AFB North Dakota was tracked along the Western Test Range. Public hearing on Vandenberg Village condo plan set

A hearing is scheduled for Monday June 14 on a proposal by Vandenberg Village Development Co. to rezone property in Vandenberg Village for a condo facility. The County Planning Commission supported the project after redesigns following protests by nearby residents. Supervisors call for bids June 24 for Miguelito Rd construction over a 242 mile stretch south of Lompoc.

Arrest of Knox Porter for second offense DUI

Knox Porter 44 of 135 N B Street was arrested on suspicion of a second offense drunk driving Saturday. Bail set at 758 dollars. Police detained Porter in the Block of East Walnut Avenue.

Graham sentenced on drug possession with probation terms

David William Graham 19 of 221 N Seventh St received six months in jail as a probation condition after a conviction for possessing restricted dangerous drugs. Judge Terrill F. Cox imposed a one year term suspended for three years and ordered the six months to be served minus 20 days already served. Graham was arrested April 28. Burglars entered William H. Vance's home at 1101 N Poppy St Sunday stealing jewelry cameras a tape recorder and petty cash valued at about 945 dollars.

Santa Barbara marshal seeks space, ends with basement rooms

Marshal Patrick O'Brien pressed to take second floor courtroom space for his department but faced opposition from Judge Joseph Lodge and Clerk Ruby Blanchard.
