Goleta Valley auto center veto sparks supervisor clash

Monday, Supervisor James M. Slater won a motion against the Goleta Valley auto center after the Board of Supervisors found the project not in the public interest. Raul Navarro, aide to Supervisor Charles F. Catterlin, relayed the vote as Catterlin was hospitalized. Supervisor Curtis Tunnell later said he had not voted.

McNamara seeks secret session amid resignation talk

Dr. Norbert McNamara requests an executive session with the Board of Supervisors to discuss problems with County Administrative Officer Raymond D. Johnson who urged his resignation. Acting chairman Curtis Tunnell said a full board is required for such action due to two absences.

Starlight Concert Aids LOVARC In Lompoc Valley

Local musicians donate time for the first annual Starlight Concert to raise funds for LOVARC Pre-School in Lompoc. Admission is one dollar per family with two-hour shows nightly in Miguelito Canyon Park featuring The Nuts and Bolts, Lompoc High Symphonic Winds, Madrigal Singers and more.

City Beautification Commission weighs 1973 74 budget options

The commission reports a $2,899.51 balance and $2,024.69 spent since July 1972 on beautification. An estimated $3,780 in contributions through June 1974 will be available, with proposals including watering costs for Flower Power lot, planting 17 to 19 street trees, replacing trees with Evergreen Elms at about $10 each, planter benches from a downtown study, more median planters, and finishing phase I of Wye beautification.
