Clemency offers delivered under pressure in Watergate case

Former White House aide John L. Caulfield testified he reluctantly carried clemency offers to Watergate conspirator James McCord Jr. and believed Nixon likely knew. MH faces 44 per cent sewer rate increase

Mission Hills residents served by Lompoc Utilities Co may face a 44 percent hike in sewer charges from $4 to $5.75 monthly for homes and from $25 to $35 for commercial customers. A hearing date with the California Public Utilities Commission is pending.

Lompoc approves electric rate hike amid PG&E rise plan

The Lompoc City Council voted 3 1 to raise electric rates about 10 percent to offset PG&E increases and build reserves for future expansion. The move, with Sol Lefkowitz in opposition, follows a 25 percent PG&E hike costing the city about 165000 in 1973 74. A July effective date and June 5 council resolution are planned, with a plan placing the new rate between Santa Maria and Vandenberg Village levels.

Kissinger sends Sullivan to Saigon for cease fire talks

William H. Sullivan, deputy assistant secretary of state and U.S. ambassador designate to the Philippines, flies to Saigon after a six hour meeting with Hanoi negotiator Le Duc Tho. Sullivan will brief South Vietnamese officials on progress as Kissinger plans further talks with Tho amid ongoing negotiations. Thach contradicts Kissinger claiming progress.

Nixon reveals limits placed on Watergate probe

President Nixon disclosed for the first time that he ordered his top aides Haldeman and Erlichman to limit the Watergate investigation to protect sensitive national security operations. He said some aides may have exceeded directives to hide illegal activities, and spoke of plans to allow break ins to protect secrets, later withdrawn due to objections from J Edgar Hoover. He denied personal wrongdoing beyond not being vigilant enough and noted warnings from FBI's Gray about aides' possible involvement.
