Navy salvage operation begins on submarine

Navy salvage experts planned to pump 1300 tons of seawater from the USS Guittaro lying 34 feet under San Francisco Bay at Mare Island. The 4640 ton Sturgeon class sub sank during final fittings. no injuries occurred to 20 workers.

FBI arrests two in coed kidnapping case

FBI agents arrested Edward Lee Dull and Alvina Marie Spriggs in Baltimore on charges related to the kidnapping of Anne Kathryn Jenkins, a 22 year old University of Pennsylvania student. Jenkins was held for three days last week until a ransom of $10,000 was paid by her financier father.

Regents Agree On Student Lines Of Communication

Governor Reagan and UC regents back open channels with students though no consensus on averting campus disorder. About 1000 militants at UCLA demanded a meeting with Reagan and the regents, were barred from the board room, then faced police outside as officers cleared the crowd. Arrests were made for battery resisting an officer and trespassing. Charles J. Hitch said campuses are seeking better grievance outlets.
