Police cleared barricades after 40 officers arrived. protesters regrouped and were chased off across an open field. The eight member Supreme Court overturned the federal narcotics conviction of Dr Timothy F Leary former ard psychologist famed for LSD research. He was found guilty in Laredo Texas of transporting illegally imported marijuana and failing to pay a $100 per ounce transfer tax. The Court struck down a provision that allowed presuming illegal importation from possession. The ruling suggested Leary had a valid defense claiming tax payment would have exposed him to self incrimination.
