Regents seize control of Angela Davis rehiring decision

University of California Regents vote to remove tenure hiring authority from UCLA chancellors in the Angela Davis case. The move follows UCLA's recommendation to reappoint Davis, a philosophy assistant professor and former Black Panther, amid court scrutiny of her campus presence.

Sunday services feature ex-convict Reverend at Lompoc church

Rev Larry Reed, a former San Quentin inmate, appears at Lompoc Foursquare Gospel Church with talks on Youth Awakening and a home for girls involved with narcotics during three Sunday services. Sample Ballot Forms Arrive for May 18 Mailout

A second shipment of 50 000 primary election sample ballots arrives at the county election division amid a week of delays due to a teamster strike. Ballots were delivered by Greyhound and will be mailed to more than 104 000 registered voters the week of May 18.

State cigarette tax apportionment totals 8.38 million

State Controller Houston I Flournoy announced the April cigarette tax apportionment totaling 8 382 323 to counties and cities. Santa Barbara County received 21 421 87 Lom poc City 10 546 29. The 58 counties share was 1 553 422 and cities share 6 828 901. This distribution equals 30 percent of March 1970 cigarette tax fund deposits after 30 percent administrative costs.

First Women Nominated as Generals Call It An Honor

Washington UPI reports two women officers Col Anna Mae Hays and Col Elizabeth Hoisington among 82 colonels nominated for brigadier general by President Nixon. Hays says rank is honor. Hoisington notes women stand taller. Both have served since 1942.
