Planning Council to study county government service delivery

The Area Planning Council, through the Council on Intergovernmental Relations, will conduct a countywide pilot study to determine which government agency should provide various services. A pre-application conference in Santa Barbara next Thursday will brief representatives from five cities and Clinton Sherrod of Lompoc. The study will explore air pollution control, courts, flood control, police protection, and sewer service, aiming for broad citizen participation and long-range goals.

Lompoc Valley Press Club hosted a meet the candidates forum with Sheriff hopefuls John Carpenter and Harry Looney and Congress candidate Harold Keith. Administrative officer laments 1970 71 budget cuts

County Administrative Officer Raymond D. Johnson said trimming the proposed 62 million dollar budget for the 1970 71 year will be challenging. He noted department heads and other services have proposed about 8.5 million dollars in excess.

A Koebig & Koebig report to the County Park Commission urges repair and replacement of deteriorated piles braces planks and stringers on the Goleta County Beach Park pier built in World War II with a 210 foot seaward extension. About half of deck planks and stringers are deteriorated or rot damaged.
