Power Failure Strikes Lompoc South of Ocean Ave

A morning power outage in areas south of Ocean Avenue, affecting Lompoc Hospital and Lompoc Junior High, was caused by a likely vehicle collision with a power line. Power was restored in 18 minutes, hospital switching to emergency supply, with no incidents reported.

Cleveland drivers vote walkout end

United Press International reports Cleveland Teamsters truck drivers have voted to end their month long wildcat walkout. Drivers in St Louis voted to continue their strike and Milwaukee union members denounce a proposed national trucking settlement as a sellout.

Perozzi elected Lions district chief in California

George W. Perozzi of Lompoc was chosen district governor of Lions District 4A3 covering three counties and 52 clubs at a San Luis Obispo convention attended by over 500 delegates. He holds the Key Award and Advancement Key Award and has served in multiple club and district roles.

Lompoc building activity fell behind last year with April valuation at 35 171 dollars versus 67 972 in 1960. For 1969 70 the year to date total reached 773 223 dollars, down from 832 535 the previous year. Residential alterations led with 14 228 dollars. two commercial permits totaled 9 993 dollars and a house move added 9 450 dollars.

Ellsworth Wing Leads Blanchard Trophy Race in Missile Competitions

The 44th Strategic Missile Wing at Ellsworth AFB leads the Blanchard Trophy standings with top maintenance scores. The 44th Combat Targeting Team posted 588 of 600, and maintenance teams accumulated 475 of 500 and 674 of 700 in separate events. Remaining rounds include combat crew, while Whiteman’s 351 SMW lags with no scores posted. Leaders in other categories include 308 SMW and 390 SMW, with close races in Best Titan II Wing and Minuteman competitions.

State orders 10 percent cut in Medi Cal pharmacy fees

The California Department of Health Care Services ordered a 10 percent fee drop for Medi Cal prescriptions at about 4,000 pharmacies from May 8 to July 1 to meet budget limits. Director Dr. Earl W. Brian said the cut avoids patient service reductions and followed a law requiring budget balancing.

City honors Luther Thomas after 12 years service

City employees celebrated Luther A. Thomas for 12 years of service with a retirement dinner and dance at the Moose Lodge. Thomas, 70, began in 1958 in the water department and later worked in streets and traffic control, retiring as senior maintenance man. He is married to City Clerk Wilma Thomas and plans to fish.
