Allied commanders sent 5,000 more troops into Cambodia as U.S. armor pressed deep toward COSVN in the Fishhook and Parrot’s Beak regions. By nightfall about 30,000 troops were inside Cambodia with hundreds of tons of supplies seized and 1,952 enemy killed.

Plane with 14 aboard crashes after takeoff from Hamilton AFB

A two engine T-29 Comair with 14 military personnel aboard crashed shortly after takeoff from Hamilton Air Force Base. The aircraft departed toward Fairchild AFB Washington and radio and radar contact was lost almost immediately.

Kosygin Calls On World To Stop Cambodia Aggression

Soviet Premier Kosygin urged an end to U S aggression in Cambodia during a Moscow news conference. He condemned U S actions as a crude violation of Indochina accords and argued Washington seeks to draw Southeast Asia into military blocs. He urged action over conferences and warned of further international tension.

China pledges support for Red forces in Indochina

Peking Radio quoted an official government statement pledging to back Communist elements in Indochina with all forces after Nixon announced U S action in Cambodia. The text denounced bombing in North Vietnam and condemned U S expansion of the war. Kosygin urged world action against aggression.

U S forces end North Vietnam protective strikes

The Defense Department said air strikes at three points in North Vietnam were the last planned and reinforced protective actions. Assistant Defense Secretary Daniel Z Henken stressed no further strikes are planned, while White House and Ziegler say no bombing resumption occurred.

Martin Marietta strike settled after six weeks

United Auto Workers members at Martin Marietta Corp Vandenberg Air Force Base ratified a new three year contract ending a six week strike from March 24. Kent State U Bandits Clash With Guards. 3 Dead

Gunfire erupted as Ohio National Guardsmen battled about 3000 Kent State University students. At least three people including two guardsmen and a student were killed, and around 15 injured. Stanford faced student unrest. authorities considered losing the campus to outsiders.

Mayor to be named at council meeting after new members join

The city council will elect a mayor tomorrow in regular session at City Hall with all nine members present. Acting mayor Charlotte Benton and Art Scott are the incumbents, joined by newcomers George Cotsenmeyer E C Stevens and So Lefkowitz. Also on the agenda are permit procedure changes, park agreement extension to 1971, a Flower Festival street closure, Crestview Drainage Ditch annexation and its withdrawal from county fire protection.
