Six Allan Hancock College instructors granted sabbaticals
Six members of the Allan Hancock College faculty received sabbatical leaves from the college board of trustees. Names include Burl Worley Robert H Rhodes Roy D Willey Richard G Dixon Jean Soper and Justin Atkinson. Each sabbatical provides full pay for one semester or half pay for two semesters to pursue study research and professional development.

GOO Opposes Deepwater Supertanker Port at Port Hueneme
The GOO organization sent telegrams to Gov. Reagan and lawmakers urging opposition to a proposed deepwater supertanker port at Port Hueneme in Ventura County. Former State Sen. Alvin C. Weingand led the effort, warning a spill could be far worse than the 1969 incident and urging protection of Barbara Channel.

Board to consider outdoor burning rule change north county
The Board of Supervisors will be asked Monday to approve rules allowing outdoor burning of dry vegetation at one and two family homes in the north portion of the South Central Coast Air Basin. The rule, drafted by Health Officer Nardo and APCD Director Seymour, follows a San Luis Obispo model with improvements and would not affect the South Coast area. Curtis Tunnell of Santa Maria lobbied for the change.
