Expanded flood control study referred to Bureau

Soviet fleet mystery deepens in Atlantic voyage

British defense officials say the Soviet fleet now in the North Atlantic may reveal its destination by Thursday. NATO and London observers suggest the ships head toward the Far East, with a possible Adriatic or Mediterranean route. The flotilla includes three cruisers, three destroyers, eight submarines, tankers and support vessels.

Oldest woman resident dies in Lompoc district hospital

Minnie McDonald 101 died yesterday at 3 30 p m in Lompoc District Hospital long term care unit. Born 1868 on Washington's Birthday in Indiana, she and Donald McDonald moved from Nebraska to Los Olivos then Lom poc. Survived by daughter Zena and three sons, six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. McPeek Mortuary handling arrangements.

Nixon seeks extension of 10 percent tax surcharge

President Nixon asked Congress to extend the 10 percent personal income tax surcharge at least until mid 1970 and keep the $9.5 billion annual revenue from the levy, delaying reductions in telephone and auto excise taxes. He argued inflation is economic aggression and urged a strong budget surplus and monetary restraint to cool inflation.

Nimbus to Launch Weather Elk Tracking Satellite

NASA will launch a $10 million Nimbus IB weather satellite with back up components from here on April 10 to study Earth cloud cover and track an elk in Yellowstone National Park using a body implanted transponder. The mission aims to improve animal migration tracking and human navigation techniques while the craft carries seven experiments and high resolution cameras.

Accident at Lompoc Wye injures two drivers

A Mission Hills woman Peggy A. Kinman age 32 and a New York motorist Margret Kress age 26 escaped injury in a collision at the Lompoc Wye intersection. Both northbound on Highway 1 at 3:30 p.m. Kinman’s car sustained minor damage and Kress’s moderate damage after an improper left turn.
