Motion for new Ray trial seen

A motion seeking a new trial for James Earl Ray will be filed in Memphis this week. Ray's brother Jerry says Ray will plead innocent to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr death and a decision on the petition may come within three days. Two attorneys, J.B. Stoner and A.J. Ryman, are being considered. Stoner says Ray was pressured into pleading guilty while Ray waits in Tennessee State Prison serving a nine year term.

Rusk says Americans united on Vietnam policy

Debt boost urged by Senate unit in Nixon era plea

Treasury Secretary Kennedy and Budget Director Mayo urged the Senate Finance Committee to approve a first annual increase in the national debt limit, warning the government may exceed the 365 billion ceiling next month. The House-passed 12 billion temporary boost would set a 377 billion limit before dropping back to 365 billion on June 30, 1970.

San Francisco State students begin trial on campus unrest

Nearly 500 students arrested during January rally face five municipal proceedings. Judge Joseph G. Kennedy to oversee preliminary motions for about 50 defendants charged with illegal assembly and disturbing the peace.
