Cal Poly Food Industries Dept Receives IFT Recognition

The Food Industries Department at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo has been added to the Institute of Food Technologists Approved List of Colleges and Departments. The department, part of the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, has 98 students and runs a hands on program with a campus processing plant. Approval followed fall 1970 campus visits and reflects efforts by the entire faculty.

Three receive medals during ceremony at SAMTEC

At the Space and Missile Test Center three officers earned medals and citations. SMSgt. James P. Hard headed business guide spurs Turlock growth and tax cuts

Enoch Christoffersen, longtime Turlock mayor and councilman, built a pay as you go city by frugal budgeting. He notes modern facilities funded in advance and a sewage bonded debt paid by user charges. Tax rates have fallen from 2.0 to 1.52 per 100, with a 34 million pound poultry plant guiding the fortune. A lake project digs up dirt to fund the plan. In New Guinea, a landslide in West Sepik kills 20 in Tetelmin village.

LaVerne College Plans Geomorphology Course at Vandenberg AFB

LaVerne College will offer Geomorphology an upper division Natural Sciences and Mathematics course at Vandenberg AFB beginning April 12. Instructor George Mills notes California as the classroom and cites volcanoes earthquakes glaciers and active landforms as core study elements. Prerequisites are light with one prior science course suggested. Everest named for Sir George Everest who led the 1953 Everest ascent.
