California CCCSS forms steering group for shuttle push

House approves 18 year old voting amendment

The House gave final congressional approval to a constitutional amendment to let 18-year-olds vote in all elections possibly by 1972. If three fourths of the states ratify, it becomes the 26th Amendment overriding state minimums of 21. Existing law already ensures 18 year olds can vote in next year’s federal elections.

Vietnamese Push Ends Laos Invasion As North Attacks Increase

UPI reports Saigon nears completion of the Laos incursion while North Vietnamese forces intensify attacks on a 10,000-strong American support force in South Vietnam and a battered South Vietnamese armored column. A communist commando group struck Khe Sanh, destroying helicopters, killing three Americans and wounding 36, with eight more Americans killed in broader raids.

Supervisors Approve 15 Deputies for Goleta Jail

Sheriff John W. Carpenter won approval for 15 additional deputies to staff the new Goleta Valley detention facility after a mass jail break plot was uncovered days earlier. Twelve male and three female deputies were authorized to raise total positions to 51 at a projected $200,000 cost next fiscal year.
