18-Year-Old Voting Bill Clears Senate Halfway Milestone

In Sacramento the Senate approved a constitutional amendment to lower the voting age to 18 for all elections, sending it to the Assembly. The measure would enfranchise about 1.5 million youths and aligns with efforts by Sen. George Moscone and Assemblyman Willie Brown Jr., with Governor Reagan indicating openness to a ballot question in 1972.

Twin brothers’ murder case dropped after witness gap

Oakland County Circuit Judge James Thornburn dismissed murder kidnapping and assault charges against 18 year old Keith and Kenneth Gilbert after the only witness could not distinguish the twins. The Gilberts and Lawrence Harrold Jr. were linked to the death of Sylvia Siegers 20, of Pontiac, shot after carjackings on Nov 23, 1970. Frederick Nicholson testified he could not tell the brothers apart. Harrold’s trial proceeds.

Quintuplets Born After Experimental Drug Use

Mrs. Pearl Kaplan, 25, gave birth to California's first quintuplets after using the experimental fertility drug Humagon for about a year. One infant died at 10 weeks. four girls, about two pounds each, survived in guarded condition at Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Hubert Rubenstein led a 26 member delivery team. Mrs Kaplan and her husband Paul expressed relief and pride.
